Vrana Lake is the largest natural lake in Croatia: the park covers 57 square kilometres and the lake 30, and it has been a nature park since 21 July 1999. The water is brackish and the lake is a cryptodepression. In the north-west lies an ornithological reserve of 8.83 square kilometres, protected since 1983; over 260 bird species have been recorded and up to 100,000 birds gather in winter. At Crkvine a 600-metre boardwalk leads to an observation tower, the trail at Prosika is passable with a pushchair, and the Kamenjak viewpoint at around 283 metres has a panoramic telescope. An unpaved route of roughly 48 kilometres runs around the lake, best tackled on a mountain bike. From Škabrnja it is 32 to 42 kilometres depending on the entrance, about 40 to 45 minutes.
