About
The little church of St Luke stands in the cemetery in Škabrnja. Around it lay the medieval village of Kamenjane, held in the 13th and 14th centuries by the noble Šubić family, after which people from Zadar also bought land there. The church was built in the 13th century, and the pointed Gothic vault, reinforced with two transverse ribs, was added in the 15th century. The interior is single-nave and ends in a broad semi-circular apse; the twin-arched bell gable is a later addition. The church was damaged at the end of the 17th century, and in the Homeland War it was hit by several artillery shells; the restored church was blessed on 16 June 1996. St Luke is the patron saint of Škabrnja, and the Day of the Municipality is marked on his feast.
